Providing Access To Higher Education (P.A.T.H.E.)

The P.A.T.H.E. initiative is a college focused initiative that is tailored to support Middle School/ High school students in their quest to graduate from a four year college. Our program will support local schools and organizations by mentoring future scholars, facilitating college/university tours, providing P.A.T.H.E. initiative workshops and advocating for the improvement of our educational system. Hermanos participating in the P.A.T.H.E. will play a key role by providing scholars with the social, educational and emotional support needed to reach these goals.

Hispanic College Institute

The Hispanic College Institute (HCI) is a four-day residential program hosted at Virginia Tech that focuses on rising high school juniors and seniors in hopes of introducing them to the college search process. We match them up with current college students that lead teams that we call FAMILIAs. The students spend those four days learning from each other as well as their leaders (LEADS and Jr LEADS) and building confidence; not only confidence about getting into Virginia Tech but self-confidence about how to be successful in life.

As Hokies, and as Hermanos, we make it our mission to volunteer annually and become mentors to these future leaders. Hermanos across the state come together to help guide and be a resource to the next generation. We also aim to raise money throughout the year to give scholarships to excelling students in this program and provide any support we can in helping them succeed.

The Big Event

The Big Event at Virginia Tech is a student-run day of service that has grown into the second largest event of its kind in the nation. Every spring, thousands of students, faculty, and staff come together to complete nearly 1,200 community service projects throughout Blacksburg, Christiansburg and the New River Valley with the purpose of saying Thank You.
